This song is tough to perform live, and not because it's "hard" it's just emotionally so demanding. I mean I could half-ass it and just sing the words and go by, but part of this song is the feeling I bring it. I guess it could be called "emotional music" (hmmm.... good genre name, ganna write that one down)
It's about a the same girl from "Used To It" just later on after the rejection. I think this song brought a lot of closure to me. It's really the "love" song I ever wrote TO someone. Even though the feelings aren't there anymore, the few times I've played it live I almost break down in tears, because I never had that "high school" fling where you lay under the stars at night and just enjoy each other presence.
The line "every time the shit became flowers of me to hand out in a bouquet" is about how sometimes bad stuff happens but in the end it all works out, like manure (shit) helps fertilize flowers.
Some more Shinfo, this song never really had a real name for a LONG time. It's gone through different names (and two bands) before I settled on the great Fight Club quote, which I think sums up how high school crushes are, only serving to one singular person. (oh changing quotes) The Anzac Status version (the name of which is some Donnie Darko quote I can't remember) added more words that I have added to this, now 100% official version.
lyrics
I look for truth the justice in you my dear pacifist, but there was a war raging about how I could stand, I saw your smile and every time the shit became flowers worthy of me to hand out in a bouquet
and I've stayed up too damn late with my near, by my side pretending that it's you and we sleep so soundly, I almost achieved what I set out to do, except one thing, will you lay under the stars and forget everything
I won't see your beautiful hair for months on end, I must move on move forward get to move past you, I lie by myself and I'm the one I hate, taboo love in a taboo heart but who's to blame
I look for truth the justice in you my dear pacifist, but will you lay under the stars forget everything, I saw your smile and every time shit became, flowers worthy of a bouquet
