I wrote this song about when I turned 19. I was feeling oddly old, and out of place with where I thought a "college student" should be. I still have no answers to any questions this song brought up for me, and I get more and more frustrated the older I get (in fact I turn 21 this year, 2010, so I have no idea what I'll do then)
It's also the only song where I drop the eff bomb. I try to refrain from it as much as possible, but at this level of frustration it's one of those times it just comes out.
The chorus is about sort of going for God and realizing there is more than just this plane of existence. A place where, I believe, is where truth is, and that this "life" is just a lie as to what we truly are and can accomplish.
"Reaching across the aisle" is something politicians say about working with the opposing side. I use it here as a way of working with those of a different core beliefs and values about finding the true life.
lyrics
I'm not who you thought I could be, stop writing songs about being a pussy, if I was 21 would I be a man, so fucking sick and tired of your demands
and we can be for greatness in this life, I'll give up my great lie
it wasn't greatness that was given to me, it was a compromise, trying to cope within my life, couldn't get away from her eyes, in spite of everyone, and maybe I found her again
do we ever love, do we always cry, do we ever sleep, do we always die, should I reach my hand extend it out and grab a hold of you for days on end
reach across the aisle
I give up, could I know, I'll be there all comatose
